East Coast Visit

Last week the girls and I took a quick trip to the East Coast.  It was SUPER busy and so I didn’t get a chance to post, and now I’m trying to catch up.  Here are a few quick photos, including an iPhone photo from our travel day there – the first day this year that I haven’t taken a shot with my dSLR.

Entertaining themselves on the flight.

Project 52: Playing with Light in Black and White (4)

Today’s post is for Project 52, a weekly blog project that I am working on with several other talented photographers whom I’ve come to know and adore over the past year. In this project, we concentrate on light and spend several weeks exploring an overarching theme.  We are currently playing with light in black and white, concentrating on taking an image that we intend to convert to black and white even before we’ve hit the shutter button.

In today’s B&W image, I was relying on black and white less for it’s ability to bring out subtle shadowing in a portrait, and more because a monotone can reduce distraction from my subject – the world reflected in my daughter’s eye.  Our recent travels have meant that a series of loved ones have surrounded her, and then quickly left her again – quite a lot for a three year old girl to handle.  She has loved running around with her best friend James today, but has come to check in with me a couple times, including at this moment.  I hope that I provide a constant for her in the madness of our travel.

Space Needle

Met with an attorney yesterday to take care of some outstanding tax and life planning issues (part of Operation Get Our Sh*t Together, which includes finally drafting that will we never did, finding a dentist and a PCP, among other things).  Before I ducked into Starbucks, I saw this view of the Space Needle and decided to try and capture it with my lensbaby.  Kind of a trippy view, no?
